Philadelphia Jobs with Justice

Philadelphia Jobs With Justice is a coalition of labor unions, community organizations, religious and student constituency groups building a movement for worker's rights and social economic justice on the principles of solidarity, reciprocity, militancy and direct action. Philadelphia Jobs With Justice is dedicated to winning victories that matter for working people.

Jobs with Justice engages workers and allies in campaigns to win justice in workplaces and in communities where working families live. JwJ was founded in 1987 with the vision of lifting up workers’ rights struggles as part of a larger campaign for economic and social justice. We believe in long-term multi-issue coalition building , grassroots base-building and organizing and strategic militant action as the foundation for building a grassroots movement, and we believe that by engaging a broad community of allies, we can win bigger victories.

We reach working people through the organizations that represent them—unions, congregations, community organizations—and directly as JwJ activists. Nearly 100,000 people have signed the Jobs with Justice pledge to Be There at least five times a year for someone else’s struggle as well as their own.

The JwJ Pledge

During the next year, I will be there at least five times for someone else's fight, as well as my own. If enough of us are there, we'll all start winning.

STAND UP for our rights as working people to a decent standard of living.

SUPPORT the right of all workers to organize and bargain collectively.

FIGHT for secure family-wage jobs in the face of corporate attacks on working people and our communities.

ORGANIZE the unorganized to take aggressive action to secure a better economic future for all of us.

MOBILIZE those already organized to join the fight for jobs with justice.

Volunteer

Jobs With Justice is looking for Volunteers! Interested in workers' rights? Interested in fighting for social justice work? We need volunteers to help fight for the rights of workers in Philadelphia, as part of a broader social justice struggle. We need people to help distribute handbills, with data entry, writing articles and letters, mailings, photocopying, and much more.

Student Labor Action Project

As Philadelphia students and youth we commit ourselves to the struggles of working class people in this city and to the fight against all forms of oppression including racism, sexism, and homophobia. We stand for equality, the rights of workers, justice, and democracy. We are against the corporatization of education and aim to make our universities fully accountable to the communities they were built to serve. We believe that direct action wins working class families better working conditions, affordable health care, paid sick days. SLAP provides dedicated student leaders with the skills and tools necessary to affect meaningful change for workers on our campuses and in our communities through trainings, events, and actions.

Tha Truth - The Civil Rights Movement

Tha Truth is an activist, political rapper, and volunteer for Jobs with Justice. Half the proceeds of his online CD sales will go toward Philly Jobs with Justice and its campaigns to fight for worker's rights in the city. The CD "Tha Civil Rights Movement," is about fighting inequality, bigotry in all its forms, corporate greed, and the lack of universal health care for all people. The entire CD is full of inspirational, thought provoking, educational, and empowering lyrical content. This CD makes for a great way to support music for worker's rights and Jobs with Justice at the same time.
